As we prep for season L7-10′s
Posted by gvteam on November 29, 2011
Parents and Gymnasts,
As we start working towards our season goals, the first step is to dust off the competitive Leo and get a mind-set for the marathon that is competition season, Smart and steady wins the race.
Optional level gymnastics requires consistency / proficiency. A gradual build over 4-5 months will prep the peak. How do we set our season? Do we have a plan?
1) 14 weeks preparatory (strength/skill acquisition)
2) 14 weeks transition (Strength/skills/combos)(routine prep)
3) 20-21 weeks competition (Jan-May)
- All Strength is broken up and each is spread throughout 52 weeks
1) Muscular Strength
2) Muscular Endurance
3) Speed, power and neural adaptations
That gives us a 48 week plan with 4 weeks lite recovery work. We have had a lot of success with the way our season is set up. As a gymnast gets older or into the top levels even more care is taken to maintain their bodies for the long-term.
I am sending this information for each to keep in mind that the meet next weekend is for the mindset that it is now competitive season. It is not for chucking/tossing, All Around as of Dec 10 is not our goal or in the plan.
